Semovi Official Victim of Violent Robbery

An official from the Mobility Secretariat of Mexico City (Semovi) was a victim of a robbery after arranging a meeting through the dating app Grindr. The apparently casual encounter led to a violent assault in which the victim was drugged.

According to reports, the official contacted a man through the app and agreed to meet at a hotel in the Coyoacán borough of Mexico City (CDMX). During the stay at the location, the assailant allegedly drugged the victim with gummies containing an unknown substance.

Hours later, the official woke up disoriented and realized that his cell phone, chains, cash, and even his car, a 2023 Mazda, had been stolen, according to journalist Carlos Jiménez.

The Attorney General's Office of Mexico City has begun an investigation to find the perpetrator of the attack. Furthermore, the agency urges the public to be cautious when using dating apps and to report any suspicious situations.

This case highlights how dating platforms like Grindr are being exploited by criminals to select, attract, and harm their victims. The lack of regulation and the absence of identity verification mechanisms in these apps allow assailants to operate easily.

Despite the fact that these apps were created with the aim of bringing people together, they now represent a dangerous territory if basic safety measures are not taken. Assailants often create false profiles, making their immediate tracking by authorities difficult.
